Yes, we can help with tongue thrust. Tongue thrust, also referred to as an Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder (OMD), can be caused by many different things. The first step is to complete a full evaluation and then create a custom treatment plan together with the family. Length of treatment varies depending on the condition’s severity, as well as compliance with the at home exercise program. Our goal is to help eliminate the inappropriate function of the muscles using the most effective treatment model based on your family member’s needs.
Yes! We use a program that helps stimulate the proprioceptive needs of the tongue while eliminating the availability of the thumb to meet that need and introducing the appropriate placement of the tongue in the roof of the mouth. This program lasts approximately four weeks.
At the end of each session we will give you a quick overview of how the session went. At your request, we can provide you with a monthly progress note so you can keep track of the goals being addressed and the progress being made.
